2 April 2025 - we are a few days away from welcoming our "S" babies. Long waited litter for sure. Breeding Dominetta with such a nice male as Vuko is was my dream for a couple of years. I've waited quite a long time before deciding to cover her. 2 simple reasons: she was very "childish" and I coudn't find a proper male. I've been watching Vuko growing up from the beginning - this stunning male caught my attention when he was only 3-4 months old. In him I saw my Bjorn's (his grandfather) resemblance.
Like any other litter, we start preparing a week or so before the final countdown. Making extra space in my room is not for the weakest tho. I have a bunch of stuff, I'm one of those "just in case I need it" woman. Even tho I'm highly organized and I love to have everything put together, I need to admit making space for whelping box and clean towels is my "I'd rather be beaten" thing.
It still brings extra joy - once I'm finished and everything is set up tho. She needed to meet her new friend, whelping box. It's her first litter, she needs to say hello.
Tons of clean towels, sheets and blankets are ready for arrival. Observing female means a lot, especially when she is going to be a first time mom. A lot of people say "they are all the same". They are definetely not. Some shows signs 12-24 hours prior whelping and some don't. Some start to decline food and some don't. It's really interesting how each of them is so similar, yet so different.
We are ready. Thermometer, scale, gloves, clean scissors, disinfectant - all ready. But most important: clean, quiet and warm environment for our future mom.
